Anne Clarke
ProducerAnne Clarke was for many years Deputy Director of the Gate Theatre. Productions during that time include premieres such as Dublin Carol and Port Authority by Conor McPherson; bash, written and directed by Neil LaBute; the shape of things, starring Cillian Murphy; The Yalta Game by Brian Friel; A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Frances McDormand; Three Sisters, directed by Adrian Noble; and A Doll’s House, directed by Karel Reisz.
She oversaw the West End transfers of many Gate productions, including Brian Friel’s Afterplay at the Gielgud Theatre, starring John Hurt and Penelope Wilton; and Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming at the Comedy Theatre, starring Nick Dunning, Ian Holm, Ian Hart, John Kavanagh, Jason O’Mara and Lia Williams.
She managed many other international tours including several visits to the Spoleto Festival, Charleston, and to New York, as well as two major Festival transfers : The Beckett Festival, which was presented at both the Barbican Centre in London and at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York; and The Pinter Festival in New York.
Since leaving the Gate in 2003, her company Landmark Productions has become one of Ireland’s leading independent production companies.
She is a member of the boards of Barabbas, Cork Midsummer Festival and Irish Theatre Magazine, and is a former chair of Theatre Forum.
