The Book of Names: Dublin Port
directed by Louise Lowe
ANU and Landmark Productions

Two of Ireland’s leading theatre companies – ANU and Landmark – join forces for the first time, to present the first instalment of a hugely ambitious three-part nationwide co-production that plots a singular path through one of the most secretive, contentious and turbulent times in Irish history.

100 years ago, working as a cell for Michael Collins, the men in Dublin Port were instrumental in the procurement and smuggling of arms and ammunition to feed the republican movement for independence. It is estimated that 95% of the total munitions used in the War of Independence were smuggled directly through Dublin Port. The ‘Book of Names’ is a unique historical ledger which documents in careful detail the names, ages and roles of every employee in Dublin Port during the period in which this epic tale begins.

The Book of Names is both companies’ most ambitious long-term project to date.

Pumphouse launches the ‘Book of Names’ trilogy; the second and third parts are planned for 2021 and 2022.

Pumphouse is supported by the Arts Council through its Arts Grant Funding scheme. The production will premiere at Dublin Port in March 2021.

World Premiere.
