To mark the century of the publication of James Joyce’s masterpiece, in 2022 three of Ireland’s most innovative arts organisations ANU, Landmark Productions and Museum of Literature Ireland commissioned, curated and presented Ulysses 2.2, a year-long odyssey of creative responses to the 18 episodes of Ulysses.

This final site-specific instalment, Wordspace, a seaside installation with audio, features recorded excerpts from the Proteus episode, read by Olwen Fouéré and directed by Louise Lowe. This free installation took place on Salthill promenade in Galway as part of Galway International Arts Festival in July 2023.

Watch it Flow Past from Here

We read and re-read our given section searching for ‘clues’.
We were struck by the beauty of the ordinary contained in Joyce’s words.
Shells crushing, ash sword, Leahy Terrace steps, midwife bag, Kish Lighthouse,
Poolbeg, a dog, Sandymount Strand …
